Join Eastbourne graphic and collage artist Maja Jones at Port Hotel for fun, experimental, contemplative and collaborative collage evening workshops themed around the four Turner Prize nominated artworks being exhibited at Towner Art Gallery.
Each collage evening will be inspired by one of the artist’s work and collage activities will reflect the message and ideas behind it.
The first and opening collage evening theme, on Wednesday 4th October, titled ‘My Sanctuary’ celebrates the thing or person you turn to in the time of need. The collages will be a response to the questions like “What keeps you afloat, what’s your raft, what’s your sanctuary, what or who saves the day? It’s based on the beautiful and emotive concert piece called “Rafts” by Rory Pilgrim which in his words is about “making connections between mental health, recovery, support structures in our daily lives. At the heart of the film is shared love of nature and how we take care of this precious spaceship earth we find ourselves on”.
These sessions are open to all abilities, from total novices to seasoned pros. And that’s the beauty of collage, anyone can do it. It’s a great way to self-reflect and see what's going on the inside. It can give us focus, it lets us be in the flow, with no distractions. Plus it’s a great way of connecting with other people too, over a cocktail or two.
What's included in collage sessions?
A plethora of materials as visual sensory feast like magazines, images, colours, patterns, type, words as prompts as well positive energy and good conversations will be available.
Please note that the drinks are not included in the ticket price.
