Port Calls Adam Walker
We’ve teamed up with local co-working space, FOUNDRY for our Workcation Offer.
Your To Do list has never looked more appealing, with a sea view as your outlook, and a cocktail to reward you end of day for nailing those deadlines.
As your workcation stay includes free day passes to newly launched FOUNDRY we wanted to introduce you the founder, Adam, who shares the buzz on the local business community, and gives us a little tour of his co-working space.
Over to Adam…
What was the reason for opening FOUNDRY?
We wanted to build a place that helped people harness a better work-life balance. A space to showcase local talent, where local businesses can work together.
Is there a big freelance/small business community in Eastbourne?
There's a really strong economy of freelancers and small businesses in Eastbourne. We are providing a place for them to meet and to grow together. Examples include App and Software developers, PR Agencies, Graphic Designers and Music Label Management and Publicity.
What excites you about the business community in Eastbourne?
The diversity in types of businesses here is phenomenal. There is a strong local economy and there are huge opportunities for forging business-to-business relationships.
Why did you choose Eastbourne as the launch pad for FOUNDRY?
I'm originally from Bristol. I've spent a lot of time in Eastbourne over the last few years, working out how to build the first FOUNDRY. For me Eastbourne was a no-brainer for the first FOUNDRY, due to the strong internal economy and the sheer number of really great SME's here. They aren't getting the exposure or the representation that people in Brighton are getting, for example, so it made real sense to locate here.
What kind of work environment does FOUNDRY create?
We aim to take out all the barriers to getting to work. We're right in the Town Centre. Whether you're here for an afternoon, or taking out a lease on an office for a year, you can sign up on the app, come in, log into the WiFi and get straight on with work. It's a bright, open workspace, with everything you need and a range of different membership types, so everyone can find their space.
Tell us more about your memberships?
We have day and month passes available for our shared Members' Lounge, Dedicated Desks with monitors available both short and long-term, and studio offices with two, four and six workstations. We have also recently release discounted bundles of 4 and 8 day passes for the Members' Lounge. We have 35 dedicated workstations, 25 serviced office studios, and room in our Members' Lounge for 135.
What are some of the perks that can be enjoyed at The Foundry?
We have the best WIFI and aircon in Eastbourne and unlimited freshly ground coffee and local beer and cider for our members. We're righty in the centre of town and are partnering with loads of great local businesses to provide our members with discounts at our favourite places to eat, drink and stay in town, as well as gyms and leisure facilities.
How do you start and end your working day?
I'd like to say I hit the gym, but more often than not, I'm responding to emails! Then checking in with the team at FOUNDRY. End of day I like to drop in on Erik for one of the amazing cocktail creations at Port, and on warm days enjoy an ice cream and walk on the seafront.
What are your three favourite things about Eastbourne?
1. It's the sunniest place in mainland Britain!
2. All the amazing things that are going on here and the surrounding area that you just wouldn't know about unless you were here. I always look forward to the intimate experience at the Tennis and making a prat of myself the Lightning Fibre Ice Rink this season!
3. The pride people here have in their town.
Any must-visit recommendations for people headed to Eastbourne and the surrounds?
I've been lucky enough to go out to sea with the Ocean Dadventure team, and treated to fly aways to Headcorn Airfield seeing the beauty of East Sussex from the sea and air.
